This is the best time of the year to hear and observe birds as they are busy defending their territories, attracting mates and building their nests. The Amsterdam forest (Amsterdamse bos) offers a wide range of habitats, suitable for many different species of birds. During our spring walk we can expect to see waterbirds, like the great crested grebe displaying its elaborate courtship behaviour, and to spot and hear warblers like the blackcap or the reed warbler. We might even see a kingfisher perched on a branch over the water preparing for his next dive.
