Motivation
I am fascinated by Amsterdam’s organic structure. Because its expansion follows a finger-like pattern instead of an ever-growing circle like most cities, any person living in the centre can reach a green area by travelling as little as ten minutes on a bike. And even in the heart of the city centre you can find nature everywhere: blue and great tits feeding on Dutch elms, rare ferns growing on canal walls, coots nesting on floating garbage, herons perching on automobiles, you name it! So there’s always a story to tell when you’re a nature guide in Amsterdam.
